1. Long-Term Confidentiality Request for Photos and Manuals

On recent TCB training, the FCC allows applicants request equipment internal photos and user's manuals confidential with the FCC through a KDB Permit But Ask (PBA). The internal photos and user's manuals shall meet the following conditions:

[FCC Quote]

Internal Photos - Epoxied or otherwise sealed circuit board, sealed device, non-consumer device serviceable only by the grantee or designated tech (non-disclosure agreement  may be required)

User's Manual - Technical and used as a service manual only by qualified technicians (non-disclosure agreement may be required). Manuals for OEM use only that include proprietary information.

Hence, please be sure that the applicant clearly states on the request letter the justification to why the exhibits should be held under long-term

confidentiality. In addition, this request may cause a delay in the issuing of the grant.

2. Industry Canada Representative Requirement

[IC Quote]

It has come to IC's attention that the information about Canadian Representative submitted by applicants is not always accurate or valid. It was determined that more than 20% of the applications received contained incorrect, out of date or invalid information with regards to the Canadian Representative.

IC has established a new internal procedure to ensure that Canadian Representatives are valid and consequently, this introduces additional delays in processing applications.

Although this is not a requirement for CBs, IC is asking that CBs inform their clients that they should provide a signed letter from the Canadian representative in which they state their acceptance of this responsibility.
This would simplify our procedure and accelerate the processing of applications.

Failing to provide a signed letter from the Canadian Representative will mean that IC will have to validate the information by contacting the Canadian Representative, which will have an impact on the processing time of those applications.

A sample Attestation Letter is available for downloading at our website. If the following link does not work, please go to www.timcoengr.com and click "downloads' and then choose "IC".

3. FCC Requirement for TCB Post-Market Surveillance

The FCC has updated the TCB post-market surveillance requirements as of October 31st. Please note the following has been added:

[FCC Quote]

Stating that a device is no longer manufactured is not a sufficient excuse for not providing a sample. Also, stating that the device will not be marketed in the United States does not absolve the applicant/grantee of the requirement to provide post grant production samples upon request by the TCB or the FCC.

Failure to provide a post-grant production sample(s) may result in blocking of the Grantee Code for use in future equipment authorization applications, or other FCC action"

[End of Quote]

Please be aware to keep at least one sample for post-grant surveillance. Failure to provide a sample may result in grantee code being blocked.
