Physical Description

Copper mesh makes up the ground plane, which measures 6.2m X 6.6m over steel reinforced concrete. The ground plane is made up of copper mesh sheets that overlap each other and are soldered together to form an electrical connection. Around the periphery every 3 meters is a 2.4 meter long ground rod that is bonded to the copper via a short braided copper strap. Devices for test are placed on an expanded PVC and wood stand approximately 1 meter by 1.5 meters in size and 80 cm above the ground. The flush-mounted table is rotated by a motor that is fixed below the ground plane. The antenna is raised and lowered on a 4.5-meter PVC mast. A motor is used to adjust the height of the antenna. The motor is mounted just above the ground level.

The OATS compound

The test site is an open field located in the agricultural district of Alachua country in the city of Newberry, Florida. It is bounded by a field on the east side, open areas on the south, and a wooden building to the north and west. The surrounding area is owned by Timco Engineering, Inc. and is maintained in order to minimize reflections.
